5 for Friday

So wrapped up with students on Thursday & had a few moments this morning to post about our crazy week.

On Monday & Tuesday we learned all about The Polar Express & the students enjoyed watching the movie in the mornings.  In the afternoon we learned some economics - focusing on wants/needs & goods/services.  We assessed our learning by creating iWant/iNeed apps for our Techy Santas:

On Wednesday we introduced How the Grinch Stole Christmas by drawing - check out these beauties:

I think they did such a great job!

Thursday we walked into the room only to find Jingles here:

We watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" & celebrated with a Green Grinch Party:

There were a lot of people, but it was all MERRY!

And after all that, I was cleaning up my room & stumbled upon an envelope {I kinda freaked out thinking, "Uh, oh...I bet this was a note from the office & I forgot to give it to a kiddo!"}.  But, inside was this:

And to top it all off my Donors Choose project was fully funded, thanks to 8 generous donors!  I can't wait to get my tools & put them to work with my Kinders.

Just because it's been such a wonderful week - here's a 6th & 7th pic...me in all my Grinch glory & my favorite quote:

Wishing you a 3 x too large heart,

"You're a Mean One...

Mr. Grinch."

We had a blast culminating the 1st semester with some Grinch AWESOME-NESS!  Of course we used Deanna Jump's unit, but the snow day prevented us from making our Grinch glyphs {next year Glyph Girls!}.

Here are some photos:

His grandma made the tie & vest ensemble, just for our 2012 Grinch Day!!

Cutest Cindy-Lou-Who EVER!!
I don't know about yours, but our Green Grinch Party was FAB - so doing that again!!  We even had a dad dress up and pass out our green licked candy canes - the kids thought it was GREAT.

My Grinch hat was new & check out my green Chucks!!

Parent volunteers loved the snowman chocolate bars {with fuzzy socks tied on top as the hat}..."Thanks SNOW much for volunteering!"  Sorry, I don't have a pick {forgot to snap a shot} but they were loved & super fun - the best part, they're very reasonably priced too!  I'm pretty sure the idea came from a teacher blog/pinterest...I get so many ideas from both, but I couldn't find the post/link.

Merry Christmas I'm off to shop/wrap & enjoy my family,

Grinch Day

Yay for Grinch Day!

Today, to kick off the holiday season, 1st grade celebrated Grinch Day.  Special thanks to Deanna Jump for her fantastic TpT Grinch mini-unit and to Cara from First Grade Parade for the initial idea to have a Grinch Day.

We started by reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  Next, we described the Grinch using the chart poster I drew...not perfect, but pretty acceptable for my free hand attempt!

Then we completed some activities that I copied from the Grinch mini-unit - they kept the kiddos engaged and busy.  Fourth, we did the Grinch grin activity and aren't they cute?!?!...

This 1st grader would take all the presents.
This 1st grader would steal Christmas.
Finally, I sent them all home...UGH without their green candy canes!  So, the Grinch left a note on our white board wishing them a Merry "Grinch"mas.  How on earth did I stay up 'til 11:00pm last night making these tags & forget to pass them out?  Oh well, tomorrow's another day and Grinch Day was FABULOUS!

Now my kiddos will get a nice weekend treat, courtesy of the Grinch - Happy Friday!

{UPDATE: They thought Taylor the Elf brought them...all is well in 1st grade!}
