Apples Run-a-muck

So we did some amazing work this week - letter focus T & theme...APPLES!

The kids love this theme, mostly because we cook in class - who doesn't love a mid-day, class made apple snack?!  Thanks to Apple Farmer Annie, we sequenced the apple's life cycle & story - then we sequenced the apple's journey from the orchard to the grocery cart.

We made muffins on Thursday:

And applesauce on Friday:

Did you know I have a 2nd career lined up?...Chef!  Yeah, I love my littles - they loved the treats so much they told me I "should be a chef," over and over - ha!  Well, I think I'll stick to teaching - I practically had to cook those muffins myself...I was praying for that dang oven to work & thank goodness for answered prayers, because I could not handle 22 crying Kinders!

In writing we wrote all about Johnny Appleseed's pioneering contributions.  Check out these cuties posing in my mom's yard sale find...a la Johnny Appleseed:

I'm still sad over the departure of summer, but here we go - it's on to fall!  This was truly a great week & I can't believe I managed it all in a 4 day week

Apples & iPad Organizational GENIUS

So we learned all about apples this week = YUM!  My teamies and I have come to the conclusion that if you can't do it in Kindergarten, you won't get to do it.  {We aren't as "tied" to a curriculum or schedule as other grades, and we don't have TCAP Standardized Testing.}  So when it comes to the cooking, baking, tasting...let's just say we DIVE IN:

Apple muffins - which they kept calling "cupcakes!"
Apple mini muffins & a bit left over for an admin. snack!
Applejacks graphing
More fun with Applejacks
Why are there so many more orange than green?
Applejacks & Apple juice - a kiddo's birthday was today & she told her mom: "My birthday snacks should be apples, because that's what we're learning!"  Gotta LOVE it.
Final one of fun with AJs.
Now to some organizational GENIUS!  My teammate showed me her iPad "garage" - uh can you say a-MAH-zing!  She is going to buy me one of those circular surge protectors, since iPad chargers take up so much of a straight power strip.

I didn't even need to buy my "garage" - I had one just chillin' in my closet-o-shame!  I swear that place has everything...problem is I'm not sure how long it'll take to FIND it.

See my peanut M&Ms stash - LOL!
Hope you had a great week - we're starting fall/leaves next week.  I can't believe we are already learning about autumn {my favorite day, Scarecrow Day, is just around the corner}!

My Friend Johnny

So in Kindergarten we've been starting our fall seasonal activities.  Starting off with some apple fun...

  1. Making apple muffins, after reading an apple book from our Treasures reading series
  2. Making crockpot applesauce
  3. Apple Jacks sort & graph
  4. Apple tasting & craftivity...thanks to those Glyph Girls!

We've got the cutest hall:

After seeing my "model Johnny Appleseed" on the front white board all week, my students politely asked if they "could have hay too!"  My response: "Of course" - so I stayed 'til 6:30 hot gluing raffia {aka: hay} to their completed glyphs.

So excited for next week - America/Constitution Day (a district requirement, but my team ROCKS & we've made it a super fun America-filled week...pics to come!!)
