Today we started our newest
GA Math Unit - on Measurement & Analyzing Data.
To be honest we are pretty familiar with the concept of graphing & analyzing data...we do it a few times a month - just last week we graphed gummy bears, Super Bowl victors (ahem, don't mention to ANYONE the Broncos), and if we liked porridge or not. We are wrapping up our hibernation/migration/adaptation &
3 Bears unit...we read & compared all sorts of
3 Bears stories, hence the need to sample oatmeal and graph our preferences.
So to kick off some measurement FUN - I read
Measuring Penny. Then the students found materials around the room & used various non-standard units to measure a buddy (much like the girl did with her dog, Penny):

The kiddos had a ball - measuring, counting, & recording their findings in their math journals! Tomorrow, let the Ribbon Wars begin,
